We are Cicadas. An Athens-based artistic platform founded by Angelos Papadopoulos and Stella Spyrou. We produce and host dance productions, performances, masterclasses, and residencies, with an international perspective and a hands-on artistic eye. Both of us come from active careers as performers and choreographers, with academic backgrounds that stretch well beyond the studio: from choreography and performance studies to finance and engineering. We bring that breadth into everything we do. We believe that performing art deserves the infrastructure to travel, grow, and reach the people it was made for. We are here to build that infrastructure — with creative direction, curatorial vision, and a genuine commitment to the work. That the best collaborations happen when artists feel supported at every stage — from the first idea to the last performance. That Athens is not a periphery. It is a starting point. In Greece, cicadas mark the arrival of summer — that moment when the air shifts and everything feels possible. That's the energy we bring to every project.

Angelos Papadopoulos (he/him, they/them) is a dancer and movement director based in Athens. His works have been presented at Art Athina, the Athens Conservatory, Flux Laboratory, Arc for Dance Festival, Tanzahoi International Dance & Dance Film Festival (Audience Award), and Act International Festival (Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, Residency Award). His dance company has been funded by the Greek Ministry of Culture for the past two years.

He is an ARTWORKS fellow of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation and a graduate of the MRes Choreography & Performance program at Roehampton University (2022). He studied dance in State School of Dance & Greek National Opera. He holds a BA in Economics from AUEB.

He has taught choreography seminars at the University of Peloponnese and Moragemou Professional Dance School, and is a certified Pilates instructor trained under Michael King.

Stella Spyrou is a choreographer and teacher of African diaspora dances based in Athens. Her practice centers on rhythm, the body as a carrier of memory, and the collective experience of movement, drawing from her research in Brazil and Afro-Brazilian dance and ritual practices.

Her work has been presented at international festivals including Arc for Dance, 21Masdanza (Special Mention of the Jury Award), Cádiz en Danza, Trayectos, and Danza Urbana. Her upcoming production Ânsia has received funding from the Greek Ministry of Culture for 2025–2026. She has collaborated with the Athens and Epidaurus Festival, Touch Compass (New Zealand), and the Onassis Public Schools, and has led workshops for mixed-ability groups across multiple platforms.

Spyrou holds an MSc in Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering from the University of Patras, a BA in Contemporary Dance Practice from the American College of Greece, and pursued postgraduate research in Biomechanics at the University of Campinas, Brazil.
